Changing the Life of a Child

According to the World Health organization, more than 5 million children die each year from preventable diseases. AIDS, Malaria, malnutrition are killing the most innocent in our world, the children. Villages are becoming ghost towns and local economies are crumbling.  Africa now has 12 million AIDS orphans with Uganda having 1.7 million children that have become orphans as a result of AIDS.  The number is expected to rise to 43 million by 2010.

AIDS is the biggest threat to Africa’s development, according to the United Nations.  The reason is large number of people in key roles that are dying:  teachers, farmers, health-workers, civil servants and young professionals.  In many places the land holds graves instead of crops.  The roadsides in the trading areas are lined with coffins and wooden huts bearing the word ‘Clinic.”

While there are few children orphaned by the AIDS epidemic and other diseased that are able to find a home with extended family members or guardian, many of them are totally abandoned.

Many of the older children migrate to the cities where they resort to begging, thievery and prostitution.  They live on the streets in cardboard boxes or whatever they can find for shelter.

Younger children wander the villages, begging for food; often migrating to the cities as well where thy scavenge in the rubbish dumps.  These abandoned children suffer incredible hardships including physical and sexual abuse.  They experience the most miserable life imaginable and many eventually perish.

The Dove Uganda Children's Fund was created in 2003 to help restore hope to the people of Uganda, one child at a time.  Through Child Sponsorship you can restore hope to at least one child and make a difference that will change their lives!
